It's after midnight here, and I just had a brainstorm. The #1 reason to write articles (or any content) is NOT to grow your 10,000 list, spread the word, build your brand, or to make money. Although, these are great goals and I wholeheartedly support them.
AND YET...
I think the #1 reason to write articles has to be "to share your expertise and explore the topics that interest you."
Otherwise, how long will you really keep up an article writing schedule. A month or two, sure - you're a dedicated soul. Yet if you're not excited about diving into your topic - week after week - with research, writing, editing, publishing, and tracking - well - only a true love topic will keep you going.
Two Ways To Choose the Right Long-Term Article Topic for YOU.
So how do you make sure you've chosen a true-love topic?
First, look to your area of expertise. After all, if you have spent the time and energy to become an expert, chances are it's a subject close to your heart. Think about the services or products you offer your clients.
- Can you write to help your clients choose exactly the right path for them?
- Can you explain your philosophies or why you get such great results?
- Are there case studies or success stories you can share? They have great impact.
- Are there products, books or web sites you could review for your community of clients?
- Can you write to ensure that your clients have lasting results - with tips of the week on how to continue their success, for example?
- How can you support them after the sale, so they keep coming back and referring their friends?
- What new ideas do you have for your field of expertise that your peers would love to hear about?
- What would you love to teach your clients?
Second, take a quick test - it's an easy one - I promise!
Grab a blank sheet of paper and start to write out at least 15 ideas for articles. Do you see any themes? Do any of the ideas inspire you? Any of them spark your curiosity? Do you already have an outline in mind for some of them?
The ideas that came up in these exercises are probably the ones you have the passion and persistence to continue to explore.
Be good to yourself - stick to what makes you happy and write articles that -
- Help you have fun,
- Empower you to be more creative, and
- Satisfy your soul.
In other words, write for yourself. The rest of us will understand!
Be well, be blessed,
